as occasion of CHIGIANA INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL AND SUMMER ACADEMY 2026, dedicated to ISLANDS and the composer HANS WERNER HENZE.

From 6 July to 1 September 2026, the eleventh edition of Chigianaradioarte will take place. This special section of the Chigiana International Festival, organised as an online radio festival, is dedicated to the art of radio and sound broadcasting, and is entitled:

XI Chigianaradioarte isles

Research and production include broadcasts of works by artists, guests, a new radio spatial sound studio, experiments dedicated to the arts of broadcasting and spatial sound, specific radio art projects, interviews, presentations, and live broadcasts. A project monograph dedicated to the work of Curtis Roads, a pioneer of computer sound, is also being developed among other specific issues from Festival.

Chigianaradioarte welcomes proposals from artists, researchers, and experimenters through an

Opportunities are open to both special projects and works.

The word “isles” refers to the festival’s theme, islands, and is a structural element of radio broadcasting, offering an opportunity to read and reread the practice of radio-sound-transmission art in this context, leaving room for free interpretation.

Thematic track:

What could isles be? For us, they are places of desire where to encounter or re-encounter radio art. Nowadays, they are the productions of radio-sound-transmission art, which in our view appear as echoing soundscapes emerging from the vast sea of ​​streaming. For this reason, we would like to propose a special participation in this project, which could materialize in moments dedicated to your specific radio idea environment, as if it were an encounter, a landing, or a sonic contact with the isles by web radio users.
